Dutch Certification plate Guarantee Act

Precious metals have been tested for their purity in The Netherlands for over 600 years. It is the oldest form of consumer protection we know. The hallmark of a recognised assay office guarantees the purity of platinum, gold, silver or palladium in your jewellery or utensils.

Are you buying jewellery made of silver (8 grams or more), gold (1 gram or more) or platinum (0.5 grams or more) in The Netherlands? Then it must bear an official hallmark. Lighter jewellery is exempt. Since 2010, a hallmark may be added to palladium on a voluntary basis. Larger items will also feature an office mark and a year letter in addition to the hallmark. The office mark indicates where it was hallmarked, and the year letter indicates when.
